i know this has been requested a few years ago too.

any chance that there can be a portal added to the multiforums script and that users can choose to turn it on or off?

That would be irresponsible.
Echo offers a forum hosting script, not a portal script which would mean another product that requires maintenance and could cause loss of focus on the main product.
